Pottery is my positive daily practice. Making objects out of clay gets me out of my head and into my body. It calms me down and forces me to be present. The movements working on a pottery wheel are balancing and restorative. I get into a rhythm of making and end up with a beautiful object that I can hold my hands.
A ball of clay in your hands holds so much potential. Watching someone throw clay on a pottery wheel is magical. It is very satisfying to turn a ball of clay into a bowl or mug that will be used by others. Pet illustrations have become core to my practice. This practice started when I decided to make a mug for a dog lover I knew. The "Sparky" mug was filled with tea and was joyfully used everyday. I continued to paint pets, chickens and other animals on mugs for friends and named my practice 'Pet Mugs Pottery'. I love the community that pottery making builds. It is a gift to teach pottery. It is fun to work with others making objects out of clay. I feel so lucky to have a creative life, I want to continue to enjoy making and watch what happens. |
