linda sutherland
Originally a Spanish teacher from Indiana, Linda Sutherland and her husband immigrated to Ontario in 1974. They live on Wolfe Island in the log home they built together with their children. Known mostly for her stained glass work since 1980, making everything from small suncatchers and kaleidoscopes to panels, lamps, and church windows, Linda earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in from Queen’s University in 2000.
Though she paints in watercolour and acrylic, large oil florals are her preference. She has also collaborated on the murals in the island village. Her training in paint and sculpture has spilled over into imaginative decorating of gourds from her garden. Most recently she has been stitching leather and paper into journals and books. Much of Linda’s art work is inspired by her extensive travels and by the beauty of nature and the faith she has in its Creator. The joy of creating by hand is a daily “must” for her, whether in her studio, kitchen or gardens. |
