Nancy Steele
Graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and later Queen’s U, Nancy Steele has had a long arts and educational career. Now retired from teaching for the correctional services, she is a full time artist and art teacher working primarily in painting. In her earlier artistic life she built small sculptural boxes and jewellery pieces in precious and semi precious metals, preferring silversmithing techniques over others. “I feel that sculpturing in metal has greatly influenced the 2 dimensional work that I do today. I prefer to paint observationally, building up forms and establishing depths with the use of colour shifts and subtitles.” When you see Nancy out and about painting en plein air, stop by and have a chat. Maybe you can ask her about the portraits she paints, or the upcoming July workshop to be held on the island in “en plein air” painting as part of the St Lawrence College Summer School of the Arts 2019.
