still standing still
trees of wolfe island this show is a tribute to a year of wolfe island ramblings: a year of walking through fields, near edges of water, close to sky and taken by wind. it was a year of savoured slowness; a year of noticing and a year of continued capturing of nature and all that stirs me in a moment. each tree is titled with its longitude and latitude on the island. the images started as photos, then were overexposed and drawn over with ink by hand, printed by laser onto tissue paper, spread with gel medium, and image transferred onto lath boards. lath was salvaged from the gutting of the LaRush house in Marysville, a renovation and passion project i have been doing for almost two years. a project where i committed to saving, reusing and repurposing the old wood from the house. the lath boards were buried in the wall plaster dating back to the 1870s. |
